Haris Tabakovic will return to TSG Hoffenheim from Borussia Mönchengladbach, according to Sky Germany, after transfer negotiations regarding a permanent move reached an impasse. The 31-year-old striker was informed of the decision in a meeting with the Gladbach hierarchy, though the club intends to revisit potential negotiations at a later date.
The primary obstacle to a permanent transfer is Hoffenheim’s valuation of Tabakovic, reportedly set at €5 million. Borussia Mönchengladbach currently considers this fee to be excessive, leading to the temporary breakdown in talks. Tabakovic himself is understood to be keen on completing a permanent move to Gladbach, where he has enjoyed a productive season.
Tabakovic has scored 12 goals for Borussia Mönchengladbach this season, establishing himself as a key attacking threat. He initially joined Gladbach on loan from Hoffenheim, quickly becoming a regular starter under manager Gerardo Seoane. Prior to his loan spell, Tabakovic spent two seasons with Hoffenheim, contributing sporadically to their Bundesliga campaigns.
Despite his positive impact at Gladbach, Hoffenheim currently have no plans to integrate Tabakovic into their squad for the 2026-27 season. This situation creates a degree of uncertainty surrounding the player’s long-term future, though Gladbach’s continued interest suggests a potential resolution could be found during a future transfer window. The temporary return to Hoffenheim allows both clubs to reassess their positions and potentially negotiate a more favorable agreement.
This development leaves Borussia Mönchengladbach searching for further attacking reinforcements, while Hoffenheim will likely seek to offload Tabakovic to another club if they maintain their current stance on his valuation. The situation highlights the complexities of player transfers, even when both the player and one of the clubs are eager to finalize a deal.
