Lazio midfielder Kenneth Taylor has expressed his desire to return to former club Ajax in the future, while also highlighting the similarities between his former and current managers’ tactical approaches. The 21-year-old discussed his career to date in an interview with Ziggo Sport’s Kick 't Met, as reported by Cittaceleste.
Taylor came through the Ajax youth system alongside current Manchester United defender Jurriën Timber and Devyne Rensch, describing their collective rise to the first team as a fortunate experience. He acknowledged the recent decline of Ajax, stating that despite remaining the biggest club in the Netherlands, PSV Eindhoven currently holds the dominant position. He expressed hope for a swift return to form for his former side.
When directly asked about a potential return to Amsterdam, Taylor stated he “wouldn’t think twice” about it, adding that Ajax “is home” to him. He explained that a sense of responsibility comes naturally when playing for the club, particularly given their history of developing and selling young talent. He noted the recent departures of players like Brian Brobbey, acknowledging the bittersweet nature of such transfers for both the player and the club.
Taylor also touched upon his time under coach Alfred Schreuder, recalling a positive experience despite a difficult end to the season. He drew parallels between Schreuder’s tactics and those currently employed by Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri, specifically regarding the team’s defensive structure. He explained that the similarities allowed him to adapt quickly to life in Rome, noting that he often finds himself replicating movements and strategies he previously used at Ajax. He jokingly suggested Brobbey should consider a move to Rome, while admitting he hasn’t yet visited the Sunderland where Brobbey currently plays, and that Brobbey doesn’t recommend the city.
Taylor joined Lazio in the summer of 2023 and has become a regular fixture in Sarri’s midfield, contributing to their push for European qualification. His adaptability and tactical understanding, honed during his time at Ajax and under Schreuder, have been key to his successful integration into the Italian side. A return to Ajax is not currently on the cards, but Taylor's comments suggest it remains a long-term ambition.
