Yves Bissouma will leave Tottenham Hotspur when his contract expires on June 30th, the club announced on Tuesday. The Malian midfielder joined Tottenham in 2022 from Brighton & Hove Albion for a reported fee of €29.2 million, but his time in North London was hampered by a persistent knee injury.
Bissouma suffered a knee injury early in the 2023-24 season and experienced a setback just 15 seconds into his return to action with Mali in October. He managed only 605 minutes of play across 11 matches for Spurs this season, including appearances during the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. Following the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as manager, Bissouma featured in only three of the seven matches, and did not appear in any of the last three crucial games in Tottenham’s fight to avoid relegation.
The 27-year-old was a key player in Tottenham’s 2025 Europa League winning side, but has struggled for consistent fitness and form. The club statement thanked Bissouma for his service and wished him well for the future, but did not disclose his next destination. His departure creates a midfield vacancy for Spurs as they prepare for the next campaign.
In addition to confirming Bissouma’s exit, Tottenham announced contract extensions for both Ben Davies and young defender Maeson King. Davies, a Welsh international who has been with the club since 2014, signed a new deal, though the length of the contract was not specified. King, a 20-year-old central defender who has been with the club since the age of 10, also agreed to new terms. These extensions for players with limited recent playing time have drawn some criticism, with some observers questioning the club’s strategy.
