Aurélien Tchouaméni has signed a contract extension with Real Madrid until 2031, the club confirmed on Wednesday evening through reports from Matteo Moretto and Marca. The new deal adds three years to his existing contract, which was set to expire in 2028, securing his future with the Spanish club for the long term.
Tchouaméni joined Real Madrid from Monaco in the summer of 2022, initially as a long-term replacement for Casemiro in the defensive midfield position. He has since become a key figure under multiple managers, including Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso, and Raúl Arbeloa, demonstrating tactical versatility by also featuring at centre-back. Despite a challenging season for Real Madrid, which included reports of a dressing room incident with Fede Valverde, Tchouaméni consistently expressed his desire to remain at the club.
According to Marca, the appointment of José Mourinho as head coach has played a significant role in solidifying Tchouaméni’s commitment. Mourinho is reportedly involved in all squad-building decisions, and approved the extension, valuing Tchouaméni’s ability to play multiple positions. The renewal also removes the possibility of the player being used as a trade asset in potential deals for other targets, such as previously speculated links with a move for Michael Olise.
This decision contrasts with the situation surrounding Eduardo Camavinga, for whom Real Madrid have reportedly set a €60 million asking price as they aim to reshape the midfield. Tchouaméni is now considered a central component of the team’s future, while Camavinga’s future remains less certain. The announcement coincided with Tchouaméni’s return to the French national team training camp following a muscular injury that kept him out of their round-of-16 victory over Paraguay at the World Cup.
His availability for France’s quarter-final match against Morocco has not been ruled out. The club will now focus on integrating his revised salary into the existing wage structure and potentially offer similar extensions to other key players in the midfield.
