Mathys Tel intends to remain at Tottenham Hotspur, seeking continued development within a stable environment under manager Roberto De Zerbi, according to Sky Sports.
The French forward experienced a challenging season with the Spurs, initially being excluded from the club’s Champions League squad before later being added due to Dominic Solanke’s injury, then removed again, and subsequently reinstated.
Tel’s early days in North London were also marked by the receipt of racist abuse online following a missed penalty during the Super Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain in August 2024.
Despite a season that didn’t fully meet expectations – four goals and one assist in all competitions – Tel showed signs of improvement following De Zerbi’s appointment as manager in April. The Italian coach selected Tel in the starting lineup for each of Tottenham’s final four matches of the season, a period during which the club secured their Premier League status.
Tel initially joined Tottenham on loan from Bayern Munich in February 2025, with a pre-agreed permanent transfer fee of €35 million scheduled for the following summer. The forward came through the youth ranks at Rennes before moving to Bayern in 2022, where he made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals.
De Zerbi’s faith in Tel appears to be a significant factor in the player’s desire to stay, and his recent run in the team suggests he could become a more prominent figure in the Tottenham attack next season. This commitment from Tel provides a degree of stability to Tottenham’s forward line as they look to build on their Premier League survival.
