Juventus are already facing challenges at the start of the new season with several players in the infirmary, most notably Khephren Thuram. The midfielder arrived for training with a significant bandage on his knee and leg, raising concerns about his fitness.
According to reports from Tuttosport’s ‘TuttoChiaro’ program, Thuram is unlikely to feature in Juventus’ first friendly match against Basel this weekend. The 2001-born player is suffering from a femoro-patellar syndrome, an issue that impacted his form towards the end of last season. His absence presents a problem for manager Luciano Spalletti, who already has a limited number of senior players available due to returning loanees and players expected to depart.
The injury also complicates potential transfer dealings for Juventus. Thuram was identified as a player who could be sold to raise funds, and a physical issue is unlikely to attract significant offers. The club had reportedly valued him in the €40-50 million range, but his current condition could hinder a sale. Juventus’ medical staff have designed a recovery program for Thuram, focusing on differentiated training in the gym and pool, and his progress will be closely monitored.
Juventus’ incoming transfer business is heavily linked to outgoings. The club needs to sell a high-value player following their failure to qualify for the Champions League. Two names currently on the radar of sporting directors Giovanni Carnevali and Frederic Massara are Frank Kessie and Leon Goretzka, both of whom would be available on free transfers. However, both players would command substantial wages and signing bonuses.
Negotiations with Kessie are proving difficult, with the Ivorian reportedly seeking €8 million per year plus commission. Juventus are unwilling to exceed the €7 million salary earned by Kenan Yildiz, their highest earner. According to Lorenzo Aprile of Tuttosport, the deal for Kessie is unlikely to materialize unless he significantly lowers his demands. Elsewhere, young forward Vasilije Adzic is a potential departure, with interest from Cagliari and Genoa.
