Corentin Tolisso has signed a two-year contract extension with Olympique Lyonnais, committing his future to the club until 2029, the club confirmed. The renewal comes with just one year remaining on his previous deal, alleviating concerns among Lyon supporters about the potential loss of a key player.
Tolisso, who will turn 32 soon, has been a mainstay in the Lyon midfield since his return to the club. He originally joined Lyon’s youth academy in 2007, progressing through the ranks before establishing himself as a vital member of the first team. He experienced a successful spell with Bayern Munich between 2017 and 2022, winning multiple Bundesliga titles and the Champions League, before returning to Lyon in 2022.
“It was obvious for me to continue the adventure with my club of the heart,” Tolisso stated in a club release, accompanied by an emotional video shared on social media. He expressed his continued ambition to win a trophy with Lyon and guide the club back into the Champions League, acknowledging a sense of unfinished business despite his established role within the team.
Tolisso has embraced a leadership role at Lyon, currently serving as captain. He emphasized his pride in wearing the shirt and leading the team, enjoying his position as a senior figure both on and off the pitch, mentoring younger players. He has been a consistent performer for Lyon, featuring regularly in Ligue 1 and demonstrating his importance to the squad.
The contract extension represents a significant boost for Lyon as they continue to strengthen their squad during the transfer window. The club recently secured the signing of a Danish midfielder, signaling their intent to compete at a higher level. Lyon finished outside the European qualification places last season, and Tolisso’s continued presence is seen as crucial to their ambitions of returning to continental competition. This move solidifies a key part of their midfield for the foreseeable future, providing stability and experience as they aim to challenge for honors.
