Sandro Tonali has informed Newcastle United of his desire to move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to TEAMtalk. The development represents a significant boost for Spurs as Roberto De Zerbi seeks to reshape his midfield ahead of the new Premier League season.
Tottenham have been actively pursuing Tonali and had already made progress in discussions regarding a potential transfer, sources say. The 26-year-old is reportedly prepared to accept a proposal from Tottenham that would more than double his current salary at St James’ Park.
Spurs have already submitted an opening offer for Tonali, valued at around £75million, but this was quickly rejected by Newcastle, who are seeking a fee in excess of £100million for the player. Despite the setback, Tottenham remain confident of reaching an agreement, particularly following Tonali’s indication of his preference.
Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan last summer for a reported £60million fee and quickly established himself as a key player in Eddie Howe’s side, making 34 appearances across all competitions. However, his future at the club is now uncertain, with several other clubs also expressing interest.
AC Milan are reportedly considering a move to bring Tonali back to the San Siro, potentially leveraging funds still owed to them from the initial transfer. Manchester City are also monitoring the situation as they plan a significant midfield rebuild, and Arsenal are keeping a close eye on developments.
Beyond Tonali, Newcastle are also facing potential departures of key players Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Hall, and Tino Livramento, as several clubs across Europe express interest. While Newcastle publicly maintain their desire to retain their core players, Tonali’s willingness to join Tottenham and the offered financial incentives could prove decisive. Negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming weeks, with the valuation remaining the primary obstacle.
