Arsenal and Manchester United have both expressed interest in signing Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, though a transfer this summer appears unlikely, according to reports from David Ornstein of The Athletic. Scott, 22, enjoyed a breakthrough season with Bournemouth, making 39 appearances across all competitions and scoring four goals.
His performances earned him a call-up to train with the England squad ahead of last year’s World Cup, though he ultimately did not make the final 26-man selection. Scott’s current contract at the Vitality Stadium runs until June 2028, and the club are reportedly keen to offer him a new deal to reflect his importance to the team.
However, Ornstein reports that Scott may be hesitant to sign an extension should a move to a larger club materialise. Bournemouth, under new manager Marco Rose, are currently resolute in their stance and have no intention of selling Scott this summer, even in the face of significant offers. The club views him as a key player for the upcoming season.
United reportedly approached Bournemouth regarding Scott’s availability earlier this week, but their inquiry was swiftly rejected. The Red Devils are reportedly considering multiple midfield targets, including Scott and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, as they look to bolster their options under new ownership. Arsenal are also monitoring the situation, with sporting director Andrea Berta identified as a fan of the player.
Recent reports suggested Scott could be available for a fee of around £60 million, a reduction from previous valuations of £70-80 million, but Bournemouth’s firm stance makes a deal this summer appear improbable. While both Arsenal and Manchester United have discussed a potential move for Scott, Bournemouth’s determination to retain their key midfielder presents a significant obstacle.
