Torino are poised to sign goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone on a permanent deal, according to reports emerging from Italy. The move comes after a period of uncertainty regarding the club’s goalkeeping situation following a previous misstep in the transfer market last summer. Torino’s sporting director, Gianluca Petrachi, appears determined to secure a reliable presence between the posts for coach Abate.
Falcone currently plays for Lecce, where he has established himself as a key player over the past two seasons. The 28-year-old has made 66 appearances for the club, demonstrating consistency and shot-stopping ability in Serie A. He began his career in the youth system at Fiorentina before spells at Pergocrema, Foggia and Cosenza, eventually finding a consistent role at Lecce.
The need for a new goalkeeper at Torino arose following a perceived error in judgment during the previous transfer window. The club had initially placed their faith in Franco Israel, but that move did not materialize as hoped. This prompted Petrachi to refocus his efforts, with Falcone quickly emerging as a prime target. A veteran director, Pantaleo Corvino, is quoted as saying a sporting director can make mistakes in many areas, but not in signing a goalkeeper or a striker, highlighting the importance of the position.
While the financial details of the transfer have not been officially disclosed, Italian sources suggest Torino will pay a fee in the region of €3 million for Falcone’s services. The goalkeeper is expected to sign a four-year contract with the club, solidifying his position as Torino’s number one for the foreseeable future. The transfer is expected to be completed swiftly, allowing Falcone to join the squad for pre-season training.
This acquisition represents a significant step towards strengthening Torino’s defensive stability, providing a dependable last line of defense. Falcone’s experience in Serie A and proven track record make him a suitable replacement and a valuable addition to the Torino squad, as they aim to improve upon their mid-table finish last season.
