Leeds United are poised to sign Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo for a fee of around €40 million, according to reports in Italy. The 24-year-old Bosnian international, who previously spent time in Juventus’ youth system, now appears set for a move to the Premier League, ending any immediate prospect of a return to Turin.
Interest from several English clubs, including Newcastle, Sunderland, and Bournemouth, has been reported, but Leeds have emerged as the frontrunners. They are prepared to offer Muharemovic a contract extending to 2031, worth €3.5 million per annum. The deal represents a significant profit for Sassuolo, who signed him from Juventus, though the Bianconeri retain a 50% sell-on clause.
Negotiations between Juventus and Sassuolo for a repurchase of Muharemovic had stalled due to a valuation gap. Juventus were reportedly unwilling to exceed €28 million, the same figure as the release clause in Muharemovic’s current contract with Sassuolo, which is valid until July 15th. This impasse has seemingly cleared the path for Leeds to finalize their agreement.
Muharemovic has established himself as a key player for Sassuolo since joining them, demonstrating consistent performances in Serie A. He has become a regular fixture in their backline, contributing both defensively and in possession. Juventus, while not actively pursuing a deal themselves at this stage, will financially benefit from the transfer through their sell-on clause, potentially receiving around €20 million.
The funds generated from Muharemovic’s sale will allow Juventus to reinvest in strengthening their own defensive options during the transfer window. The club are actively seeking reinforcements in that area of the pitch. For Leeds, the acquisition of Muharemovic would represent a significant addition to their squad as they continue to build under their current manager.
