Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as potential rivals to Lazio in the pursuit of Dinamo Zagreb centre-back Sergi Dominguez, according to a report in Corriere della Sera. The Serie A club are reportedly facing difficulties in financing a €15million (£12.8m) deal for the 21-year-old Spaniard, and have been warned to be aware of Tottenham’s interest.
Spurs have already significantly bolstered their squad this summer with approximately £230million spent on new signings, including central defenders Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke. However, the club may see departures in that position, with Cristian Romero attracting interest from other major European clubs following the exits of Luka Vuskovic and Radu Dragusin.
Dominguez has caught the attention of Tottenham scouts after a period of development with Dinamo Zagreb. Prior to his move to the Croatian club, the defender made three appearances in a top-five European league for Barcelona during the 2024-25 season. He is viewed as a promising young talent, though relatively inexperienced at the highest level.
Should Tottenham pursue a deal for Dominguez, it is anticipated he would initially be integrated into the squad as a development player. A loan spell, similar to the expected path for Vuskovic, could provide him with valuable playing time and experience. Tottenham currently possess a wealth of options in central defence, with Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Ben Davies, Kota Takai, Senesi, and Van Hecke all competing for places.
The expected first-choice pairing for the upcoming season is anticipated to be Van de Ven and Van Hecke, with Danso and Senesi also likely to feature prominently. While Dominguez would face a significant challenge to break into the first team immediately, his potential could make him a valuable long-term asset for the club. His arrival would further strengthen Tottenham’s defensive depth and provide competition for places.
