Tottenham appoint Roberto De Zerbi as new head coach
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach on a permanent deal. The Italian returns to the Premier League just weeks after his departure from Marseille, replacing the recently dismissed Igor Tudor at the London club.
The move brings a swift end to Tottenham's search for a third manager of a difficult season. The club parted ways with Thomas Frank earlier in the campaign before dismissing Igor Tudor on Sunday, merely a month after his arrival. Tottenham currently sit seventeenth in the Premier League, one point above the relegation zone, and are out of all cup competitions.
De Zerbi is familiar with English football following a successful spell at Brighton & Hove Albion between 2022 and 2024, where his attractive, possession-based style earned widespread praise. His tenure at Marseille was brief, ending on February 11th, but he now returns to the division to take on a significant rebuilding project at Spurs.
The immediate task for the new coach will be to steer the club away from the relegation battle and instill a clearer identity after a period of instability. His appointment represents a clear shift in strategy from the club's hierarchy, who have turned to a proven Premier League operator to arrest their alarming slide.
