Fiorentina to send Jack Harrison back to Leeds after loan spell
Fiorentina will not take up their option to sign Jack Harrison permanently, according to reports in Italy. The winger will return to Leeds United this summer after a loan spell in Serie A that has failed to convince the Italian club's hierarchy.
The 29-year-old moved to Florence on loan in January with an option for a permanent transfer believed to be set at €8m (£7m). That clause was contingent on Fiorentina preserving their Serie A status, a feat they are on course to achieve, but Italian publication Corriere dello Sport reports that club director Fabio Paratici has been left unimpressed by Harrison's contributions. The player has made 13 appearances for La Viola, registering just one assist and no goals.
Harrison's departure from Leeds in January came after he was marginalised by manager Daniel Farke, whose shift to a 3-5-2 formation further limited the winger's prospects. This was the second consecutive loan exit for Harrison, who spent the previous two seasons at Everton after activating a relegation clause in his contract following Leeds' drop from the Premier League in 2023.
Despite returning to Elland Road last summer, he failed to re-establish himself and now has no future at the club, according to sources close to the situation. Harrison has two years remaining on his Leeds contract, but the club is expected to seek a permanent sale this summer as they build a squad suited to Farke's preferred system.
Fiorentina, meanwhile, are reportedly ready to commit to the permanent signing of another former Leeds player, Manor Solomon, who has made a more positive impression. Harrison's imminent return leaves the player seeking a new club to resurrect a career that once saw him as a key figure under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds, for whom he made 219 appearances.
