Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka on a free transfer, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The 37-year-old joins following the expiration of his contract at Burnley, where he served as backup to Antonin Kinsky. This arrival suggests Guglielmo Vicario may depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Dúbravka, a Slovakia international with 59 caps, cited the influence of manager Roberto De Zerbi as a key factor in his decision. He stated he has admired De Zerbi’s teams in recent years and is familiar with his playing style and vision. The goalkeeper’s move to North London comes after Tottenham secured the signings of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke this summer.
Dúbravka’s previous season with Burnley saw him concede 71 goals in the Premier League, as the club finished 19th and were relegated. Despite this, Tottenham appear to value his experience in a relegation battle, seeking a reliable backup option between the posts. He previously established himself as a Premier League goalkeeper during his time with Newcastle United.
The signing of Dúbravka provides Tottenham with added depth in the goalkeeping position, potentially allowing Vicario to seek opportunities elsewhere. This move is part of a broader effort by the club to strengthen their squad following a successful return to consistent Premier League form. The arrival of a seasoned professional like Dúbravka could prove valuable throughout a demanding season.
