Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as potential competition for Lazio in the pursuit of Dinamo Zagreb centre-back Sergi Dominguez, according to a report in Corriere della Sera. The Serie A club are reportedly facing difficulties in financing a €15million (£12.8m) deal for the 21-year-old Spaniard.
Dominguez has attracted attention after a promising spell in Croatia, though his experience in top-five European leagues is limited to three appearances for Barcelona during the 2024-25 season prior to his move to Zagreb. Tottenham have already significantly bolstered their defensive options this summer with the arrivals of Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, spending approximately £230million overall on squad improvements.
Despite the recent investment, Tottenham could see departures in the centre-back position, with Cristian Romero attracting interest from other major clubs following the exits of Luka Vuskovic and Radu Dragusin. Vuskovic, in particular, was considered a player with high potential, and Tottenham appear to be continuing their search for young defensive talent with Dominguez.
Should Tottenham pursue a deal for Dominguez, it is anticipated that he would initially be loaned out to gain further experience. The club currently possesses a wealth of options at centre-back, including Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Ben Davies, Kota Takai, Senesi, and Van Hecke. The expected first-choice pairing for the league are Van de Ven and Van Hecke, with Danso and Senesi also expected to feature prominently. Dominguez would likely find opportunities limited in his first season, but could develop into a valuable asset for the future.
