Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to sign West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes with a player swap offer, according to reports, as Manchester United also pursue the Portugal international.
Fernandes is expected to leave West Ham following their relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2025/26 season. Both Tottenham and United have emerged as contenders for the 21-year-old, with a potential transfer fee estimated to be around £85 million.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano stated that Fernandes is open to joining either club, leaving the decision to which club can agree terms with West Ham. Romano also noted that the fee could increase if both clubs continue to compete for his signature, with the timing of payments also being a key consideration for West Ham.
Despite Romano’s comments, TEAMtalk reports that Manchester United have been Fernandes’ preferred destination from the beginning, with the midfielder reportedly giving them the green light. Talks between United and West Ham are now underway, though full confirmation from the player is still pending.
Tottenham are attempting to sway the deal in their favour by offering a player swap. Insiders from West Ham have revealed that Spurs have proposed including young winger Mikey Moore in the deal. Moore, who spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Rangers, made 47 appearances for the Scottish club, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.
While Tottenham fans may anticipate Moore receiving more game time under Roberto De Zerbi, reports suggest a return to Rangers is more likely for the 18-year-old. However, West Ham are considering Moore as part of a deal for Fernandes, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side potentially seek to replace outgoing wide players such as Crysensico Summerville and Jarrod Bowen.
West Ham may need to reinforce their wide positions this summer, with Summerville linked with a move to Manchester United and Bowen also attracting interest from Everton.
