Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as strong contenders to sign Rafael Leao from AC Milan, according to reports from Italy. Milan have undergone a significant restructuring following their failure to qualify for the Champions League, and Leao has reportedly indicated a willingness to explore options elsewhere.
Despite the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the new manager and the arrival of Gonçalo Ramos, Leao’s desire to leave appears unchanged, with the Premier League being his preferred destination. Tottenham, under Roberto De Zerbi, have already invested heavily this summer, spending over €200 million on Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, signalling their ambition to return to the top of the Premier League.
Milan are reportedly open to selling Leao and have set a price tag in the region of €60-70 million for the Portuguese winger. Leao himself has previously been linked with a move to England and is said to be receptive to the prospect of playing under De Zerbi. Should the transfer materialize, he would be reunited with former Milan teammate Sandro Tonali.
Leao arrived at Milan in the summer of 2019 and has since made 291 appearances for the club, scoring 80 goals and providing 65 assists. The 2021/22 season was particularly successful for the player, as he played a key role in Milan’s Serie A title win, contributing 11 goals and 10 assists in 34 league matches. He also won the Supercoppa Italiana in the 2024/25 season. Currently with the Portuguese national team, Leao has four caps in the ongoing tournament, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
The 25-year-old’s potential arrival at Tottenham would further bolster their attacking options and provide De Zerbi with another dynamic player capable of creating chances and scoring goals. The move would also represent a significant statement of intent from Tottenham as they look to establish themselves as a force in the Premier League.
