Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford are both engaged in talks regarding a potential move for Ousmane Diabate, an 18-year-old midfielder currently playing for Turkish side Genclerbirligi, according to reports in the Daily Mail. Tottenham have already significantly invested in their midfield this summer, bringing in Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes for a combined £185 million under new manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Despite these additions, De Zerbi is reportedly still seeking to bolster his midfield options, particularly given the departures of Yves Bissouma and the end of Joao Palhinha’s loan spell. The club has also indicated a willingness to consider offers for Pape Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur, potentially leading to further departures. Tottenham may need to sell players to fund further additions to their attack.
Diabate has progressed through the ranks at Genclerbirligi, making four league appearances for the first team last season while also impressing in the Under-19 Turkish Super Lig. He has also earned a senior international cap for Guinea and is currently under contract with Genclerbirligi until 2029. The Turkish club appears open to a sale, with a reported asking price of £3 million plus bonuses.
Brentford are also actively pursuing Diabate, and the Daily Mail’s report suggests they currently hold the advantage in negotiations. The competition for Diabate highlights the demand for promising young talent, and his arrival at either Tottenham or Brentford would add further depth to their respective midfields. Securing Diabate would provide De Zerbi with another option in a crowded midfield, while for Brentford, it would represent a significant investment in a player with international experience.
