Olympique de Marseille have agreed to loan Hamed Junior Traoré to Serie A side Genoa for the upcoming season. The move includes a loan fee of €2 million, with Genoa holding an option to make the transfer permanent for a further €8 million.
Traoré arrived at Marseille last summer but failed to fully establish himself in the first team, making 19 appearances across all competitions and scoring three goals while providing two assists. The loan to Genoa offers the Ivorian winger the opportunity to gain more consistent playing time and further develop his game in a different league.
Genoa will be a familiar environment for Traoré, as he will reunite with fellow former Marseille player Vitinha, who recently completed a permanent transfer to the Italian club. Vitinha expressed his happiness at the prospect of continuing his career with Genoa, stating he hopes to win the trust of the coach, his teammates, and the fans.
The loan deal benefits Marseille by potentially freeing up space in their squad and generating a fee for a player who didn’t consistently feature in their plans. Genoa, who finished 16th in Serie A last season, are bolstering their attacking options with the addition of Traoré, hoping he can contribute to their goal-scoring efforts and improve their league position. The option to buy suggests they are impressed with his potential and see him as a valuable long-term asset.
