Portugal winger Francisco Trincao will join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli in a $50million (£37.3m) deal, according to Fabrizio Romano. The move comes after Trincao initially hesitated on a move to the Saudi League, taking time to consider the offer following the World Cup.
Tottenham Hotspur had been monitoring Trincao as a potential addition to their attack following significant investment in defence and midfield, with a wide player identified as a priority. However, the club has now shifted its focus, with AC Milan’s Rafael Leao emerging as a possible alternative.
Leao has reportedly indicated he is open to a move to the Premier League, and European football expert Andy Brassell believes a transfer to Tottenham could be more affordable than previously thought, citing the significantly reduced value compared to his €175million buyout clause. Brassell highlighted Leao’s potential to provide the explosive quality Tottenham have lacked on the left wing since Son Heung-min’s shift towards a more central role.
Tottenham’s recent spending has demonstrated a change in approach, and securing a player of Leao’s calibre would represent a substantial upgrade to their attacking options. Brassell suggested that Leao’s playing style, with its emphasis on counter-attacking and fluidity, would be well-suited to the pace of the Premier League. While other clubs are also interested, Leao’s preference for remaining in Europe and his attraction to the Premier League could favour a move to North London.
The potential arrival of Leao would address a key area of need for Tottenham, providing a dynamic attacking threat and further strengthening their squad as they aim to challenge at the higher end of the Premier League table.
