Deniz Undav has requested a definitive response to contract extension talks with VfB Stuttgart before joining the German national team for the upcoming World Cup, according to a report in Bild. The striker has reportedly given the club until next Tuesday, June 2nd, to provide clarity on his future at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Undav is seeking assurances regarding his long-term future with Stuttgart after weeks of negotiations concerning a potential extension beyond his current deal, which runs until 2027. Bild reports that the 28-year-old is determined to fully concentrate on preparations for the tournament in the United States and wants the matter resolved before departing with the national team. Should an agreement not be reached by the specified deadline, discussions will be postponed indefinitely.
The demand comes amid reports that Stuttgart were preparing a new and improved contract offer for Undav this week, recognizing his significant contribution to the team’s recent success. The former Union Saint-Gilloise forward enjoyed a prolific 2025/26 season, registering 25 goals and 14 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit. His performances were instrumental in Stuttgart’s challenge for a Champions League spot, ultimately finishing in fourth place.
Undav joined Stuttgart in the summer of 2024 from Union Saint-Gilloise, quickly establishing himself as a key player in Sebastian Hoeneß’s system. Prior to his move to Germany, he had a successful spell in Belgium, where he finished as the Pro League’s top scorer in the 2023/24 season. Stuttgart’s willingness to offer an improved contract reflects Undav’s importance to the club’s ambitions, while the player’s deadline indicates a desire for certainty as he approaches a major international tournament. A swift resolution to the contract situation will be vital for both parties as they prepare for the new season.
