Virgil van Dijk is reportedly in discussions with Galatasaray over a potential move this summer, according to reports from Turkish outlet Haber Sari Kirmizi, cited by Sport Witness. The Liverpool captain’s agent has reportedly travelled to Turkey for talks with club officials following Galatasaray’s title-winning match against Antalyaspor.
Van Dijk signed a contract extension with Liverpool in April 2025, keeping him at Anfield until June 2027, but speculation is mounting that he could follow Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson in departing the club. Despite continuing to be a key player for the Reds, featuring in 53 games across all competitions this season and scoring six goals, the Netherlands international is believed to be considering a new challenge.
Galatasaray are reportedly offering Van Dijk an initial two-year contract with the option of a third year, contingent on appearances. While Liverpool’s stance will be crucial, it is suggested that allowing their captain to leave on a free transfer, despite a year remaining on his current deal, may be a difficult decision for the club.
Van Dijk reportedly views himself as a player capable of performing at a high level well into his 40s, similar to Thiago Silva, and is seeking a move that reflects this. Earlier reports in Turkey have even suggested that Van Dijk may be willing to terminate his contract to facilitate a swift move to Istanbul.
However, Liverpool’s handling of Salah’s departure, agreeing to release him from his contract a year early, suggests they may be open to similar arrangements if it’s deemed beneficial for all parties. While Van Dijk remains a significant figure at Anfield, other potential departures, such as Alisson Becker, are also being considered by the club. Liverpool are simultaneously pursuing incoming transfers, with a focus on strengthening their midfield options.
