Tottenham Hotspur are expected to submit a third bid of around £55million for Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, according to Football Insider. The Dutchman has reportedly informed Brighton of his desire to reunite with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, having previously played under him on the south coast.
Spurs have already secured the signings of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson this summer, and De Zerbi has identified Van Hecke as his preferred third addition to the squad. Tottenham’s initial bids of £40million and £50million have both been rejected by Brighton, who are seeking to maximize their return for the player.
However, sources suggest Brighton’s negotiating position is weakened by Van Hecke’s clear preference for a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 24-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the north London club, indicating a swift completion of the transfer is possible. Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke stated there is “confidence” that Tottenham can “get this deal over the line” due to the player’s interest and De Zerbi’s presence.
The potential transfer is also linked to Brighton’s interest in Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic. Spurs are reportedly seeking a fee of around £60million for Vuskovic, aiming to avoid financial loss should both players move clubs. Discussions between the two clubs are ongoing, with a growing belief that an agreement can be reached for Van Hecke. The defender made 30 appearances for Brighton in the Premier League last season, establishing himself as a key figure in their backline.
