Arsenal midfielder Fábio Vieira has indicated his willingness to remain at Hamburger SV following a productive season-long loan spell with the Bundesliga club. The 25-year-old made 31 appearances across all competitions for Hamburg during the 2025-26 campaign, scoring seven goals and providing six assists, helping them secure a 13th-place finish and Bundesliga survival.
Vieira joined Hamburg in September after struggling to establish himself in Arsenal’s starting lineup. Speaking after Hamburg’s final match of the season, Vieira stated he must be “open to everything” regarding his future, expressing deep gratitude for his time with the club. He highlighted the support he received from the fans and the club’s staff, stating he felt a strong connection with HSV.
However, a permanent move may not be straightforward. According to The Mirror, Hamburg are unlikely to take up their initial €22 million option to buy Vieira. The club are reportedly hoping to negotiate a significantly lower fee, in the region of €10 million, for the Portuguese midfielder.
Hamburg’s sporting director, Claus Costa, confirmed that discussions regarding summer transfers, including Vieira’s situation, will begin shortly. Costa praised Vieira and fellow loanee Luka Vuskovic for their contributions to the team’s successful season, noting their seamless integration into the club and their understanding of HSV’s values. He stated the club will be in contact with all relevant parties to explore potential future arrangements.
The situation leaves Vieira’s future uncertain, but his positive comments suggest a willingness to continue his career with Hamburg. A reduced fee could be the key to securing a permanent transfer, though Arsenal may also consider reintegrating him into their squad. Vieira’s performances in Germany have demonstrated his ability to contribute consistently, and a decision will need to be made regarding his long-term role at the Emirates Stadium.
