Vinicius Junior reaffirms commitment to Real Madrid amid contract talks
Vinicius Junior has publicly stated his desire to sign a new contract and remain at Real Madrid for many more years, addressing speculation over his future. The Brazilian forward made the comments ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich, directly responding to recent reports from Spain that the club had issued him a take-it-or-leave-it ultimatum on their latest renewal offer.
According to those weekend reports, Real Madrid informed Vinicius Junior that the current proposal is final and that he would be sold this summer if he did not accept it. The situation had led to significant transfer speculation, with intermediaries reportedly contacting several major European clubs, including Manchester United. The 25-year-old's current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2027.
Vinicius Junior, however, sought to calm the situation. "I hope I can stay here for a long time," he said. "I still have a year left on my contract, and we’re all very calm because I have the president’s confidence. Everyone who speaks with me every day knows exactly what we want. When the time is right, we’ll work on the renewal so I can keep playing here, because this is the club of my dreams."
The forward also reflected on a challenging period under former head coach Xabi Alonso, with whom he openly clashed during a Clasico substitution last season. "It was a difficult time because I played in a lot of matches but had very few minutes," Vinicius Junior explained. "Every coach has their own methods and ideas. I think I wasn’t able to connect with what he wanted."
He contrasted that experience with his current relationship with manager Alvaro Arbeloa. "I hope things continue like this with Arbeloa, with whom I have a wonderful connection," he said. "He always gives me confidence and tells me exactly what I need to do. I’m ready to put in great performances for the coach and for this club that has given me time."
Vinicius Junior's commitment is a significant boost for Real Madrid as they navigate a critical period on the pitch. The club suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Real Mallorca on Saturday, leaving them seven points behind leaders Barcelona in La Liga. Their European campaign continues against Bayern Munich, a match where his attacking prowess will be vital. Securing the long-term future of a player who has been at the club since his 2018 move from Flamengo remains a key piece of sporting and financial planning for the Spanish giants.
The public declaration from the player places the ball firmly in the club's court to finalise terms, with both parties now appearing aligned on the desired outcome. His statement effectively counters the narrative of an imminent sale, aiming to end speculation as the season reaches its climax.
