Ollie Watkins has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract with Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce, though a transfer fee is yet to be agreed with Aston Villa. According to Turkish outlet Sabah, Fenerbahce are keen to add the 30-year-old striker to their ranks, and are simultaneously pursuing former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.
Aston Villa are believed to be seeking €35 million (£30m) for Watkins, who has consistently scored over 15 Premier League goals in the last four seasons. Fenerbahce are currently offering around €25 million, creating a significant gap in negotiations. The club are aware that Watkins’ current contract does not expire until 2028, giving them a strong negotiating position.
Watkins has been sporadically linked with moves away from Villa Park in recent years, including a previous opportunity with Arsenal. While some have suggested retaining Watkins is preferable due to his reliability, Villa may see this as an opportunity to cash in on a valuable asset.
Fenerbahce’s interest extends to Greenwood, currently at Marseille. Journalist Nicolo Schira reports that Greenwood has ‘opened the door’ to a move to Turkey, with Fenerbahce having submitted a substantial bid. Marseille are reportedly seeking between €50-55 million (£47m) for the forward. Should both deals be completed, Fenerbahce’s total outlay could reach £77 million.
Greenwood has also been linked with a return to the Premier League, with AS Roma also expressing interest, but Fenerbahce appear to be leading the race. The potential arrival of both Watkins and Greenwood would represent a significant investment in Fenerbahce’s attacking options ahead of the new season.
