RC Strasbourg are progressing in their search for a new manager, with Wilfried Nancy emerging as a leading candidate, according to L’Équipe. The French club, owned by the American consortium BlueCo, have reportedly narrowed their shortlist to three individuals, with Nancy among them.
Nancy, currently a free agent after his time in Major League Soccer with CF Montréal and Columbus Crew, has already held discussions with several Ligue 1 clubs this summer, including Lorient. Initial talks took place last week, and a face-to-face meeting with BlueCo/Strasbourg officials is scheduled for Monday afternoon in the United States.
The 49-year-old began his managerial career in the CF Montréal academy system, eventually taking the reins of the first team in 2021. He guided the Canadian side to the MLS playoffs in his first season, earning praise for his tactical approach and development of young players. He moved to Columbus Crew in December 2023 but parted ways with the club in May 2024 after a relatively short spell.
The identities of the other two candidates under consideration by Strasbourg remain undisclosed. However, the club is not expected to appoint an English manager, though fluency in both English and French is a requirement for the role. Strasbourg are seeking a manager who can stabilize the club following a period of transition under new ownership.
BlueCo acquired a controlling stake in Strasbourg in June 2023, with ambitions to develop the club into a competitive force in Ligue 1 and a platform for talent development. The appointment of a coach with a proven track record in player development, such as Nancy, would align with those objectives. A successful appointment could signal a clear direction for the club under its new ownership.
