Werder Bremen have agreed a deal to sign 18-year-old defender Ramiz Hamouda from USL Championship side Birmingham Legion FC, multiple reports confirmed on Wednesday. According to Fabrizio Romano, the USA youth international will sign a contract with the Bundesliga club that runs until 2031.
The transfer is contingent on Hamouda turning 18, which he did on Tuesday, making him eligible for registration with a European club, as reported by The Athletic. He has represented the United States at youth levels, most recently featuring for the U17 national team at the World Cup earlier this season. Hamouda also captained the U.S. U18 team during friendly matches in March, demonstrating leadership potential at a young age.
Hamouda joined Birmingham Legion FC in 2024 after a spell with Sporting Kansas City’s academy. He quickly established himself as a key player for the USL Championship side, making 36 appearances before his 18th birthday. His consistent performances attracted the attention of several European clubs, ultimately leading to an agreement with Werder Bremen.
Upon completing his move in July, Hamouda is expected to initially join Werder Bremen’s second team to continue his development. The club sees him as a promising talent with the potential to break into the first team in the future. Hamouda is a versatile defender capable of playing as both a center-back and a left-back, offering tactical flexibility to Bremen’s coaching staff.
Werder Bremen are anticipating significant interest in 19-year-old defender Karim Coulibaly following his impressive first season with the club. A potential sale of Coulibaly could further solidify Bremen’s defensive options, with Hamouda poised to compete for a place in the squad. The acquisition of Hamouda represents a long-term investment for the club, adding a young and promising talent to their ranks.
