Yann Sommer has completed a move to Club Brugge after his contract with Inter Milan expired, the Belgian club announced on Tuesday. The Switzerland international has signed a contract with Brugge that will run until 2029, bringing an end to his single season with the Nerazzurri. Sommer arrived at Inter in the summer of 2023 and made a total of 139 appearances across all competitions, keeping 66 clean sheets.
During his time at Inter, Sommer secured two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, and two Supercoppa Italiana trophies. Prior to joining Inter, the experienced goalkeeper enjoyed successful spells with Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach, establishing himself as a consistent performer at the highest level. He began his professional career with Basel, winning four Swiss Super League titles and two Swiss Cups with the club.
Club Brugge highlighted Sommer’s extensive European experience in their official announcement, noting his 69 appearances in the UEFA Champions League and 38 in the UEFA Europa League. Throughout his career, he has played over 790 professional matches. At Borussia Mönchengladbach, Sommer was named Player of the Year on three occasions, and he added a Bundesliga title to his honours while at Bayern Munich.
Sommer has also been a mainstay in the Switzerland national team since making his debut in 2012, earning 94 international caps. His departure from Inter leaves a void in their goalkeeping ranks, though the club will likely pursue replacements in the coming transfer window. Brugge will be hoping Sommer can provide leadership and stability to their squad as they aim to compete both domestically and in Europe. This move allows Sommer to continue playing at a high level and extends his distinguished career.
