Albert Grønbæk will make a permanent move to Hamburger SV from Stade Rennais, according to Sky Germany. The Bundesliga club have agreed to a transfer fee of just over €4.5 million for the Danish midfielder, who spent the latter half of the 2025/26 season on loan with the club.
The 24-year-old Grønbæk enjoyed a productive spell at Hamburg, contributing one goal and two assists in his final three Bundesliga appearances. His performances seemingly convinced the club to pursue a permanent deal, offering him a contract expected to run until 2030.
Grønbæk initially joined Stade Rennais in 2022 from FC Nordsjælland, where he had established himself as a promising talent in the Danish Superliga. However, he struggled to consistently break into the first team in France, making only sporadic appearances across Ligue 1 and European competitions. The loan move to Hamburg provided him with a crucial opportunity to gain regular playing time and showcase his abilities.
Hamburger SV finished mid-table in the Bundesliga last season, and manager Tim Walter will be hoping Grønbæk’s addition adds further quality and versatility to the squad. The club has been actively reshaping its midfield options, and the permanent signing of the Dane represents a significant step in that process. This move allows Grønbæk to secure a consistent role within a developing Bundesliga side, offering him a platform to further progress his career.
The transfer is subject to the completion of final details, but Sky Germany reports that the agreement is largely in place. Grønbæk’s ability to play in multiple midfield positions will be a valuable asset for Hamburg as they look to build on their recent performances and push for a higher league finish next season.
