Nigerian forward Terem Moffi will return to OGC Nice after FC Porto announced the termination of his loan deal on Thursday morning. Moffi joined Porto in January with an option for the Portuguese champions to make the move permanent for a fee of €8 million, but the club have decided against triggering that clause.
The 25-year-old struggled to make a significant impact during his time in Portugal, scoring just two goals in 15 appearances across all competitions. Despite a difficult period that included experiencing violence following a match in November 2025 while at Lorient, Moffi is now set to return to the French Riviera.
Moffi initially joined Nice in the summer of 2022, quickly becoming a key player with his goalscoring ability. He scored 12 goals in 18 Ligue 1 appearances for Nice during the 2022-23 season before a January transfer to Lorient. His time at Lorient was also productive, scoring six goals in 14 league games before his move to Porto.
His return to Nice is complicated by reports suggesting he may not feature prominently in their plans. Speculation has linked him with a potential move to Olympique de Marseille, three years after previous interest. The situation at Nice is currently uncertain, and Moffi’s future remains open as the summer transfer window approaches. The loan spell at Porto ultimately failed to deliver the desired impact for both player and club, leading to an early conclusion of the agreement.
This marks a continuation of a disappointing trend for Nice in loan deals, and equals a club record for unsuccessful temporary transfers. The club will now need to assess Moffi’s future and determine whether to reintegrate him into the squad or seek a permanent transfer.
