Al-Nassr have been crowned champions of the Saudi Pro League following a 4-1 victory over Damac on the final day of the season. The result saw them finish ahead of Al-Hilal, who drew on the penultimate matchday, despite being King’s Cup winners. Mohamed Simakan, Kingsley Coman, and Sadio Mané were all part of the Al-Nassr squad that secured the title.
Kingsley Coman opened the scoring in the victory over Damac, taking his league tally to ten goals for the season. He joined Al-Nassr from Bayern Munich two years after Sadio Mané made a similar move to the Saudi Pro League. Mohamed Simakan also contributed, having scored the decisive goal in the previous encounter between Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal, although a subsequent error allowed Al-Hilal to equalize and temporarily postpone the celebrations.
This marks Coman’s 13th league title of his career at the age of 29, a remarkable achievement for the French winger. The 2023-24 season with Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga triumph represents the only season in his professional career where he has not won a league title. Mané, who experienced a challenging period at Bayern Munich, has now secured league titles in four different countries, mirroring the success of teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Al-Nassr’s triumph comes despite their recent defeat in the AFC Champions League 2 final, losing to Gamba Osaka on Saturday. Enzo Millot’s Al-Ahli had previously retained their AFC Champions League title last month. Simakan arrived at Al-Nassr in 2024 from RB Leipzig for a reported fee of €45 million, having previously won two DFB-Pokal titles with the German club. Ronaldo was visibly emotional after scoring twice in the title-clinching match, demonstrating the significance of the victory for the club and its star player.
The addition of these players, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, has clearly bolstered Al-Nassr’s squad and contributed to their league success. The club’s victory signals a continued investment in attracting high-profile players to the Saudi Pro League, aiming to elevate the league’s profile and competitiveness.
