Ruben Amorim is prioritizing an evaluation of the current Milan squad as he begins his tenure as manager, according to reports from Milan-based media. The Portuguese coach is focused on determining which players under contract will fit into his plans for the upcoming season. Amorim has already begun contacting players to introduce himself, outline his project for the club, and gauge their own ambitions.
Alongside individual meetings, Amorim will also assess players returning from loan spells. Ten players are currently scheduled to return to Milan ahead of the pre-season training camp, expected to begin between July 12th and 13th. These include Filippo Terracciano and Bondo from Cremonese, Musah from Atalanta, Bennacer from Dinamo Zagreb, Comotto from Spezia, Zeroli from Juve Stabia, Alphadjo Cissè from Catanzaro, Kostic from Partizan Belgrade, Chukwueze from Fulham, and Camarda, who has been brought back from a loan spell with Lecce.
The returning players will join the existing squad, with the exceptions of Füllkrug, whose loan has expired, and Luka Modric, whose contract is nearing its end. Pietro Terracciano is also out of contract on June 30th, but the club is considering offering him a renewal. Amorim may have as many as 30 players to evaluate, including those involved in international tournaments who will require time to recover. It is anticipated that a significant portion of the squad could be moved on during the transfer window.
Milan are aiming to build a larger squad than last season, with Allegri having utilized 20 outfield players regularly, but only 13 reaching at least 30 appearances and 15 exceeding 1,000 minutes played. The addition of Europa League football will necessitate a deeper roster, potentially requiring 20-22 outfield players and three goalkeepers. Musah and Chukwueze are considered potentially valuable additions due to their versatility, while one of Zeroli, Comotto, or Camarda will be needed to fulfill UEFA squad requirements. Bondo, Filippo Terracciano, and Bennacer are likely to be among those departing. Dinamo Zagreb are interested in retaining Bennacer, but are unwilling to meet his 10 million euro valuation, hoping he will become a free agent. Several other established players, including Maignan, Pavlovic, Rabiot, Odogu, Tomori, Estupinan, Loftus-Cheek, Fofana, Gimenez, and Leao, are also subject to evaluation.
