Angers SCO have confirmed the permanent signing of Dutch midfielder Branco van den Boomen from Ajax Amsterdam. The club announced on Saturday that Van den Boomen has signed a three-year contract, continuing his stay in Maine-et-Loire after a loan spell with Angers last season. Ajax Amsterdam had previously confirmed the player’s departure.
Van den Boomen quickly established himself in the Angers starting eleven upon joining in January, under then-manager Alexandre Dujeux. He will now look to cement his place under the new leadership of Stéphane Gilli, who replaced Dujeux as manager this summer. The 28-year-old initially joined Angers on a loan deal for the second half of the previous season, demonstrating his immediate impact on the team’s dynamics.
Prior to his move to Angers, Van den Boomen spent time at Toulouse, where he developed a reputation as a creative midfielder. He has also represented Ajax Amsterdam, though opportunities were limited, prompting the loan move to gain regular playing time. His ability to dictate play and contribute offensively made him a valuable asset during his time at Angers, and the club clearly saw enough potential to secure his services on a permanent basis.
The signing of Van den Boomen addresses a need for midfield reinforcement at Angers, providing Gilli with a proven performer. The move represents a significant boost for the club as they prepare for the upcoming Ligue 1 season, and Van den Boomen will be expected to play a key role in their ambitions. Securing a permanent deal for a player who already understands the club’s system and possesses quality will be seen as a shrewd piece of business by Angers.
