Arsenal have reaffirmed their commitment to Martin Odegaard, indicating the Norwegian playmaker will remain a key figure at the club regardless of any new midfield signings this summer, according to TEAMtalk. The Gunners are actively pursuing midfield reinforcements, with Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes and Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi both on their shortlist.
However, sources close to the club have clarified that interest in Guimaraes and Bouaddi does not reflect any doubt over Odegaard’s importance to manager Mikel Arteta. Arteta is said to be a strong admirer of his captain and views him as a central pillar of the Arsenal project for years to come. Odegaard’s influential performances at the end of last season reportedly reinforced Arteta’s belief in the player’s quality.
Arsenal’s recruitment strategy is focused on adding depth and quality to the squad, rather than replacing existing key players. Even if a midfielder like Guimaraes is signed, Odegaard’s position in the team is secure. The 27-year-old, considered to be entering his prime, has two years remaining on his current contract, and the club are keen to extend his stay well into the next decade.
Sporting director Andrea Berta has already initiated discussions with Odegaard’s representatives regarding a new long-term agreement, with initial conversations described as positive. Odegaard is reportedly happy in London and has expressed his desire to continue his career with Arsenal, believing the club is capable of challenging for major honours. He is also said to be committed to retaining the captain’s armband, having embraced the leadership role since taking over.
Internally, Arsenal consider Odegaard alongside Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka as defining figures of the current era. With contract talks progressing well and Arteta focused on building around existing talent, Arsenal are fully committed to Odegaard as both their creative hub and captain for the foreseeable future.
