Arsenal have placed a €100 million (£86.3m, $114.3m) price tag on defender Riccardo Calafiori, effectively deterring interest from Real Madrid, according to a report by TuttoMercatoWeb. The news comes despite initial reports from Spanish media suggesting Madrid were keen to sign the Italy international in the summer of 2026.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho reportedly identified Calafiori as a potential signing, seeking a centre-back capable of also playing at left-back. While Madrid recently secured the signing of Marc Cucurella, a natural left-back, Mourinho remains interested in adding further defensive versatility to his squad, having also brought in Ibrahima Konate.
However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are firm in their stance – Calafiori is not for sale this summer. TuttoMercatoWeb reports that the Gunners view the 26-year-old as a crucial component of Arteta’s project and will only consider offers exceeding the nine-figure euro sum. The report describes Calafiori as ‘one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe’.
Such a valuation would effectively price out not only Real Madrid but also Serie A clubs potentially interested in bringing Calafiori back to Italy. The financial demands would exceed the parameters of most Italian clubs, given Arsenal’s assessment of the player’s value. Calafiori himself appears content at Arsenal, with no indication he is seeking a move.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously reported that Real Madrid had made initial contact regarding Calafiori, but did not anticipate a formal bid. Romano stated on his YouTube channel that Los Blancos were simply gathering information on the player, acknowledging his importance to Arsenal’s plans. Calafiori joined Arsenal last summer from Bologna and quickly established himself as a key player in Arteta’s side, making 35 appearances across all competitions.
