Arsenal have been crowned Premier League champions for the 2025/26 season, securing the title before the final matchday after Kai Havertz’s goal proved decisive and Manchester City dropped points against AFC Bournemouth.
The Gunners ended a 22-year wait for a Premier League trophy, with Havertz playing a pivotal role in their success, scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday.
Havertz joined Arsenal from Chelsea in a permanent transfer ahead of the 2025/26 season, and this marks his first league title win as a professional footballer.
Arsenal’s triumph extends beyond the Premier League, as they now prepare for a Champions League final against reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest, Hungary on May 30th, aiming to complete a domestic and European double.
The German international has rediscovered his form at the Emirates Stadium after a somewhat inconsistent spell at Chelsea, becoming a key component of Mikel Arteta’s attacking lineup.
Interestingly, Havertz has previous experience scoring in major finals, having netted the only goal of the game when Chelsea defeated Manchester City in the 2020-21 Champions League final.
Arsenal’s success also highlights a growing trend of players with Bundesliga experience contributing to their squad, with Piero Hincapié, currently on loan, expected to complete a permanent move from Bayer Leverkusen following a successful spell.
Mikel Merino, who previously played for Borussia Dortmund, and Viktor Gyökeres, a former St. Pauli player, are also part of Arteta’s title-winning squad, demonstrating the club’s recruitment strategy.
Havertz is anticipated to be named in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for the upcoming World Cup on Thursday, carrying strong form into the international tournament.
This Premier League victory represents a significant achievement for Arteta and Arsenal, signalling a return to the top of English football and establishing them as a force both domestically and in Europe.
