FC Augsburg have completed the signing of Sima Suso from Fortuna Düsseldorf, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Thursday. The 21-year-old defender has signed a long-term contract with Augsburg, extending to June 30, 2031.
The move comes after a challenging season for Düsseldorf, who were recently relegated to the German third tier. Suso made 24 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga last season, scoring one goal, and will now step up to the top flight with Augsburg. He is a versatile player, capable of featuring both in defence and midfield.
Suso progressed through the renowned Bayer Leverkusen academy before joining Fortuna Düsseldorf. He has also represented Germany at the youth level, earning four caps for the national U-20 team. His experience within the German football system is seen as a valuable asset by Augsburg.
Augsburg’s sporting director, Benni Weber, expressed his enthusiasm for the signing. According to the club’s official statement, Weber described Suso as possessing “an extremely exciting player profile,” highlighting his versatility and competitive experience despite his young age. Weber also emphasized that Suso’s regular playing time in the 2. Bundesliga demonstrates his “great potential and quality.”
The transfer provides Augsburg with a promising young talent as they prepare for the 2026-27 season. Suso’s arrival adds depth and flexibility to Augsburg’s squad, offering coach Thorsten Lieberknecht tactical options in both defence and midfield. The signing signals Augsburg’s intent to continue developing young players and building a competitive team in the Bundesliga.
