Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio addressed several transfer topics at the Festival della Serie A in Parma, providing insight into the club’s plans for both the present and future. Speaking to Sky Sport, Ausilio discussed potential new signings, contract situations, and the development of young players.
Amidst interest from Fenerbahçe, whose presidential candidate Hakan Safi has publicly expressed interest in acquiring Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Ausilio firmly stated the club’s intention to retain the Turkish playmaker. “Calhanoglu-Fenerbahçe? He has a contract and we want to keep him,” Ausilio said, underscoring Çalhanoğlu’s importance to the Nerazzurri.
While Çalhanoğlu’s position appears secure, Inter are also exploring options to strengthen their midfield. Ausilio confirmed the club’s interest in Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, stating, “We are following him, we haven’t hidden it. We will make an attempt.” This signals Inter’s desire to add quality in midfield while remaining mindful of financial constraints.
Ausilio also provided updates on potential defensive reinforcements, acknowledging the need to sign a new defender with the contracts of Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Darmian expiring. He mentioned that they are tracking Solet amongst other options. The director also confirmed that Denzel Dumfries is likely to depart, having a release clause in his contract.
Regarding youth development, Ausilio highlighted the importance of Aleksandar Stankovic, whom the club recently purchased, believing he has the qualities to build the team’s future. He also expressed optimism about renewing Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s contract, suggesting an agreement is close. The situation with De Vrij remains open for discussion, with talks to continue after a break. Ausilio also defended the appointment of Cristian Chivu as a coach, stating the club was unified in its decision. He also revealed that Marcus Thuram was a target for other clubs, including Milan, but Inter ultimately secured his signature.
