FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of forward Karim Adeyemi, according to reports emerging on Tuesday evening. The La Liga club will pay a base fee of €22 million for the 24-year-old, with a further €9 million contingent on performance-related bonuses. Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal is now complete, with the bonuses tied to team achievements and individual appearances for Barcelona.
Adeyemi’s contract with Borussia Dortmund was due to expire next year, and negotiations over an extension had stalled, making a sale this summer increasingly likely. He joined Dortmund from RB Salzburg four years ago for a reported €30 million, quickly establishing himself as a key player with his pace and direct running. Last season, Adeyemi made 36 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund, scoring eight goals and providing six assists, though his form dipped in the latter half of the campaign.
Barcelona have been in the market for attacking reinforcements throughout the transfer window, and Adeyemi’s arrival will provide competition for places alongside Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. The club’s financial situation has been well-documented, making a relatively modest fee for a player of Adeyemi’s potential particularly appealing. Dortmund, meanwhile, will be able to reinvest the funds received into strengthening their own squad.
Sky Germany reports that Adeyemi will earn €6 million per year at Barcelona, signing a contract that is expected to run until 2031. As part of the agreement, Borussia Dortmund have secured a 35% sell-on clause, meaning they will receive 35% of any future transfer fee should Barcelona decide to sell Adeyemi. The inclusion of a sell-on clause demonstrates Dortmund’s belief in Adeyemi’s long-term potential and allows them to benefit from any future increase in his value. This transfer provides Barcelona with a dynamic attacking option and allows Dortmund to recoup a significant portion of their initial investment.
