Barcelona and Liverpool Set for Clash Over Leipzig's Yan Diomande
Barcelona and Liverpool are set to go head-to-head for the signature of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande this summer, according to reports. The 19-year-old Ivorian is expected to be a major transfer target after a stellar debut season in Germany.
Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Barcelona have identified Diomande as the ideal long-term partner for Lamine Yamal on the flanks. The Catalan club are said to view the 19-year-old as a perfect wing partner for the Spanish starlet, despite Raphinha currently being the first-choice on the left. However, the significant fee involved could complicate a move to the Camp Nou.
Liverpool are also firmly in the race, with the Premier League club seeking a long-term successor for the departing Mohamed Salah. The Reds have reportedly made the Ivorian international a top target and are prepared to battle for his signature. Diomande, who is capable of playing on either flank, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, contributing 11 goals and eight assists in 29 games across all competitions following his move from Leganes.
A fee in the region of €100 million is expected to be required to secure the player, a figure that could prove a significant hurdle for Barcelona. The Spanish club is reportedly considering a move for Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford, but a move for Diomande would likely end their interest in making Rashford's loan from Old Trafford a permanent deal. The 19-year-old's form has also reportedly attracted interest from Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United, but Liverpool and Barcelona are considered the frontrunners.
