Enzo Fernandez expresses desire for Real Madrid move
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has publicly expressed his desire to play for Real Madrid, intensifying speculation over his future. The 25-year-old Argentine, in an interview with Kick, cited Madrid as a city he loves and a place he would like to live, smiling coyly when asked about playing for a specific club there.
This follows months of speculation linking the midfielder with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Real Madrid frequently mentioned as a potential destination. Fernandez, who has six years remaining on his Chelsea contract, has been unsettled for several months, according to reports.
His recent public comments have only fueled the rumors. Following Chelsea's UEFA Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain, Fernandez was non-committal about his future, stating, "I don't know, there are eight games left and then the FA Cup. Then there's the World Cup, and then we'll see."
TalkSport has reported that the 25-year-old views a move to the Spanish capital as a "dream" and is actively exploring options to facilitate a transfer. Contract talks between Chelsea and the Argentine international are also reported to have stalled, further fueling the exit talk.
Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in a deal worth up to £106.8m in January 2023, has remained a key player for the Blues despite the club's struggles. His public admiration for Madrid and the stalled contract talks will increase pressure on the club's hierarchy as they plan for a pivotal summer transfer window. The situation is being closely monitored by Real Madrid, who have long been admirers of the World Cup winner.
