Barcelona are monitoring Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries as a potential replacement for Jules Kounde, according to reports from Sport Mediaset via Sport. The Catalan club are prepared to listen to offers for Kounde this summer as they look to raise funds, though his representatives have stated he is not seeking a move and remains under contract until 2030.
Barcelona secured the LaLiga title this season, but manager Hansi Flick has acknowledged it was a ‘difficult season’ marked by injuries and inconsistent performances. The full-back positions proved particularly problematic, with Alejandro Balde’s form declining and Joao Cancelo eventually establishing himself as the first-choice left-back after joining on loan from Al-Hilal. On the right side, Kounde struggled throughout the campaign, culminating in Eric Garcia starting at right-back in the title-deciding match.
Inter Milan may be willing to allow Dumfries to leave for a fee of around €25m. The 30-year-old Netherlands international was a key player in Inter’s Serie A title-winning season, making 28 appearances and contributing five goals and two assists. He did miss a significant portion of the season due to ankle surgery, but returned to play a vital role.
Dumfries has been previously linked with Barcelona, and his availability could present an attractive option for Flick as he reshapes his squad. The potential sale of Kounde, alongside Balde, would free up funds and create space in the squad, while Dumfries offers experience and attacking threat from the right-back position. This move could provide Barcelona with a more reliable option at right-back, addressing a clear area of concern from the previous season and potentially strengthening their defensive options going forward.
