Barcelona have expressed interest in AFC Bournemouth forward Junior Kroupi, according to Sky Sports, corroborating initial reports from DM. The 19-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed a successful debut season in the Premier League, attracting attention from multiple clubs including Manchester City. Barcelona have extensively tracked Kroupi, but Bournemouth are currently unwilling to consider offers for the player this summer.
Kroupi joined Bournemouth from Lorient 18 months ago for a fee of €13 million, having previously spent time on loan with his former club after the transfer. He made a significant impact in Ligue 2 for Lorient, scoring 23 goals and providing three assists in 32 appearances. This form carried over to the Premier League, where he has scored 12 goals in 32 appearances this season, starting 20 games. His goal-scoring rate averages one goal every 134 minutes.
The young forward has also represented France at the under-21 level, earning five caps and scoring three goals. Kroupi is a versatile player capable of playing as a central striker or on the left wing, though he has primarily featured as a number nine throughout his career. He is known for his strong finishing ability.
Barcelona are in the market for a new striker following the potential departure of Robert Lewandowski, with Julian Alvarez identified as their primary target. However, concerns over the financial feasibility of signing Alvarez have led the club to explore alternative options. Kroupi is viewed as a potential long-term project or a more affordable option, though placing immediate Champions League expectations on the teenager would be a considerable ask. This pursuit reflects Barcelona’s need to identify cost-effective solutions in the transfer market as they navigate financial uncertainties.
