Bayer Leverkusen Trigger €6m Buy-Back Clause for Kerim Alajbegovic
Bayer Leverkusen will re-sign Bosnian international Kerim Alajbegovic from RB Salzburg this summer after activating a €6m buy-back clause in the winger’s contract. The 18-year-old, who joined Salzburg for €2m in 2025, has developed into a key figure for the Austrian champions, prompting Leverkusen to secure his return ahead of the clause’s expiration.
Alajbegovic recorded seven goals and two assists in 20 Austrian Bundesliga appearances this season, while also impressing in the Europa League with a brace against Basel and an assist against Aston Villa. His performances earned him six senior caps for Bosnia-Herzegovina, including one goal, and attracted interest from multiple European clubs.
Leverkusen initially included the buy-back option to retain control of the player’s development. The Bundesliga runners-up now face decisions about his immediate role, given competition in attacking positions. While Alajbegovic is expected to join Leverkusen’s first-team setup, another loan move remains possible if regular minutes prove elusive.
The deal represents a strategic win for both clubs: Salzburg quadruples their initial investment, while Leverkusen regains a rising talent below his current market value. Alajbegovic’s return continues Bayer’s strategy of developing young players externally before integrating them into their Bundesliga squad.
