Tottenham Hotspur have been given a potential boost in their pursuit of midfielder Joao Palhinha, with Bayern Munich reportedly reducing his transfer fee to €25million (£21.5m), according to Correio de Manha. The development comes as Spurs aim to strengthen their squad following a challenging Premier League season where they narrowly avoided relegation.
Palhinha spent last season on loan at Tottenham, making 33 Premier League appearances and scoring crucial goals against Wolves and Everton. The club are keen to secure his services permanently, but had previously balked at Bayern’s asking price of £26million. The lowered fee significantly improves the likelihood of a deal.
However, competition for Palhinha remains, with his former club Sporting CP also expressing interest. Reports suggest Palhinha has indicated a desire to return to Portugal to be closer to his family, but Sporting are reportedly unwilling to meet Bayern’s new asking price, potentially paving the way for Tottenham to complete the transfer. TEAMtalk reports that Tottenham are confident of bringing Palhinha back to the club.
Spurs have already secured the signings of defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson this summer, and Pedro Porro has reportedly agreed to a new contract. The club are also reportedly progressing in talks to sign Manchester City forward Savinho. Palhinha’s arrival would further bolster Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield options as he rebuilds the squad. A successful re-signing of Palhinha would provide much-needed stability and quality to the Tottenham midfield.
