Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha is attracting interest from “every major club” in Europe, according to Football Insider, though the club are reportedly in a strong position to retain the 17-year-old. The claims come as Liverpool prepare for the arrival of new manager Arne Slot following a disappointing season for the Reds.
Ngumoha recently featured as a substitute for the England national team in a friendly match against New Zealand, demonstrating his comfort at the international level despite his young age. His performances have reportedly caught the eye of numerous scouting departments across Europe.
Former Liverpool chief executive Keith Wyness believes Liverpool are currently benefiting from Ngumoha’s lack of involvement in the World Cup, suggesting that a strong showing on that stage could have significantly increased the competition for his signature. However, Wyness insists the youngster is already widely recognised as a top prospect.
TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool have no intention of selling Ngumoha, viewing him as one of their most exciting young players. The club are expected to initiate contract talks with the winger when he turns 18 in late August, seeking to secure his long-term future. Due to his age, Ngumoha is currently unable to sign a contract exceeding three years in length, leading the club to plan for a more substantial agreement upon his 18th birthday.
There had been speculation linking Ngumoha with a move to Bayern Munich, with some reports even suggesting an agreement was in place. However, TEAMtalk dismisses these claims, stating that Liverpool are resolute in their determination to keep him. Ngumoha started five league games for Liverpool last season and will likely be integrated further into the first team as he develops.
Liverpool’s willingness to retain Ngumoha suggests a belief in his potential to become a key player for the club in the coming seasons, potentially impacting the future of other wide players within the squad.
