Bayern Munich have expressed strong interest in signing Atalanta midfielder Charles De Ketelaere, according to reports from Belgian transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri. The German champions are reportedly making a concerted effort to secure the 25-year-old’s services and have communicated their “concrete interest” to the Serie A club.
De Ketelaere joined Atalanta from AC Milan last summer on an initial loan deal, which was then made permanent in January 2024. His time in Bergamo has seen a marked improvement in form after a challenging period in Milan, where he struggled to consistently impact games following a high-profile transfer from Club Brugge in 2022. This season, the Belgian international has registered five goals and seven assists in 39 appearances across all competitions, becoming a key component of Gian Piero Gasperini’s attack.
Personal terms are not anticipated to be a stumbling block in any potential deal, with De Ketelaere believed to be receptive to the prospect of joining Bayern Munich. However, formal negotiations between the two clubs are yet to commence, though Tavolieri reports that discussions are planned for the coming weeks. Atalanta are under no immediate pressure to sell, with De Ketelaere currently under contract until 2028.
Bayern are expected to be active in the summer transfer window as they look to bolster their squad under a new manager, with Thomas Tuchel departing at the end of the season. The Bavarian club are seeking to reinforce their midfield options, and De Ketelaere’s versatility and creative ability align with their apparent recruitment strategy. His ability to play multiple positions in attack could prove valuable for Bayern as they aim to compete on multiple fronts next season.
Should a deal materialize, De Ketelaere would likely compete with Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané, and Thomas Müller for a starting position in Bayern’s attacking midfield. The move would represent a significant step up in his career, providing him with the opportunity to showcase his talents on a larger stage and compete for major honors.
