Bernardo Silva has completed a move to Real Madrid after reaching an agreement with the Spanish club, which will see him remain at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2028. The transfer was officially announced by Real Madrid on their website, confirming the Portuguese international will join the club as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Manchester City.
The move comes as a direct request from Real Madrid manager José Mourinho, who identified Silva as a key target upon his return to the club. Mourinho is reportedly seeking to add quality, experience, and tactical intelligence to his midfield, and believes Silva possesses all three attributes. The swiftness of the deal, reportedly completed within 36 hours, saw Real Madrid overcome interest from other clubs, including Barcelona and Juventus.
Silva departs Manchester City after nine successful years with the club, during which he won numerous domestic and European titles. He became a pivotal figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad, renowned for his versatility, work rate, and technical ability. While consistently a key player, Silva had reportedly been open to a new challenge, and Real Madrid presented an attractive opportunity to compete in La Liga.
Real Madrid have been active in the transfer market this summer, with the addition of Silva following the signings of Cucurella, Konaté, and Dumfries. These acquisitions signal the club’s ambition to strengthen their squad and compete for top honors both domestically and in the Champions League. Silva’s arrival is expected to significantly enhance Real Madrid’s midfield options and provide Mourinho with greater tactical flexibility.
